A 9-year-old boy riding his bicycle Thursday afternoon near Cahokia was hit by a vehicle.

The boy was in critical condition Friday at a St. Louis hospital.

The St. Clair County Sheriff is asking the public to help find the late 1990's silver or gray Pontiac Grand Am, Grand Prix or Chevrolet Malibu, Sgt. George Mokriakow said. The driver was described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt.

The boy was hit at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of Lorraine Drive near Cahokia. The driver fled.

The sheriff's department released a photo of the boy, but did not name the child.
