A 55-year-old Belleville man died Saturday afternoon after apparently suffering some type of medical condition and losing control of his car on West Main Street.

The St. Clair County coroner's office confirmed that William Willcutt was killed in the single-vehicle wreck.

The vehicle Willcutt was driving on West Main Street left the roadway and struck a street sign, a pole and two cars in the parking lot of Fischer's Restaurant.

The vehicle came to a stop after striking planter boxes near the restaurant, according to police Capt. Don Sax.

Willcutt worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation and was a Navy veteran. He was former president and an active board member of the South Side Improvement Association in Belleville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville. Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral followed by burial in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville.
