Area road projects: Watch for lane restrictions and road closures

News-DemocratJuly 15, 2013

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced the following roadwork projects to advise motorists of lane closures and traffic delays:

* Beginning Monday, motorists will encounter lane restrictions on northbound and southbound Interstate 55 between mile markers 25 and 26, which is about two miles north of Illinois 143. The lane restrictions are necessary to paint the structure over Interstate 55 and the work is expected to be completed by Aug. 9.

* Beginning July 22, the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 255 over Interstate 64 will have lane restrictions so crews can complete bridge deck rehabilitation work. The work is expected to last through late spring 2014.

* Lane restrictions in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70 near Smithboro about three miles east of Illinois 127 will continue until July 22. The right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 was closed July 9 to allow crews to perform bridge deck repairs.

* Beginning July 22, the on-ramp from Illinois 158 to eastbound Illinois 15 will be closed and the on-ramp from Illinois 158 to westbound Illinois 15 will be closed. In addition, the following ramps will have restricted use, also beginning Monday: Eastbound Illinois 15 exit ramp to Illinois 158 will be restricted to westbound Illinois 158 traffic only and the westbound Illinois 15 exit ramp to Illinois 158 will be restricted to eastbound Illinois 158 traffic only.

The restrictions and closures are required to allow the contractor to perform pavement rehabilitation work for the roundabouts. The work is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, weather permitting.
