St. Clair County residents: Have you paid your property tax bill yet?

News-DemocratJuly 16, 2013

The deadline for paying property tax bills is Wednesday for most St. Clair County residents.

Wednesday's deadline is for the first of two installments, with the second installment due Sept. 4. Taxpayers can pay their bill in person at the Treasurer's Office inside the St. Clair County Building or online at www.co.st-clair.il.us/departments/treasurer.

The St. Clair County Treasurer's Office also has a monthly payment plan that breaks up payments for property taxes into 10 payments beginning in September. For more information about the plan, visit the Treasurer's website listed above or call the Office at 825-2440.

The Treasurer's Office expects to collect more than $330 million from local property owners, including $2.23 million from the largest property taxpayer likely in the county -- St. Clair Square SPE. St. Clair Square SPE is the company that owns St. Clair Square Mall in Fairview Heights.

Most of the collected tax revenue, about 60 percent, will be distributed to local school districts.
