The St. Clair County Mobile Command vehicle made an appearance at the Whiteside Elementary School summer program, which is called SOAR (Summer Of Achievement & Recreation) on Tuesday morning. There are about 50 students, who will be entering grades first through sixth that are enrolled in the SOAR program. They first watched a safety video then were able to tour the inside of the portable command base which is loaded with high-tech equipment including computers, telecommunications gear, satellite television, closed-circuit cameras and more. The vehicle serves as an on-site command station during emergencies such as natural disasters, police standoffs or hostage situations. The children were able to write their names on a marker board inside the vehicle, then they assembled outside for a group photograph.
