Arbitration hearing date set for St. Louis winger Stewart

News-DemocratJuly 18, 2013

The arbitration hearing for St. Louis Blues winger Chris Stewart has been set for Monday in Toronto, although both sides can continue negotiating before then trying to reach an agreement.

Stewart, who filed for arbitration earlier this month, led the Blues in scoring last season with 18 goals and 36 points in 48 games. He is coming off a one-year deal that paid him $3 million and had back-to-back 28-goal seasons in 2009-10 with Colorado and 2010-11 with Colorado and the Blues.

The Blues are also still trying to nail down multi-year deals for restricted free agents Alex Pietrangelo and goalie Jake Allen. Pietrangelo, 23, is one of the top young defensemen in the NHL and is coming into his first big contract,

The Blues also have announced their 2013-14 preseason schedule and they will open at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 with a road game against the Dallas Stars.

The schedules also includes 6 p.m. Sept. 18 vs. Tampa Bay at Orlando, Fla., 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at home vs. Tampa Bay, 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at home against Dallas, 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Minnesota and 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at home against Minnesota.

The regular season schedule is expected to be announced in the near future.
