Police investigated Saturday a fatal crash that claimed the life of an O'Fallon man when a 16-year-old driver allegedly crashed into the side of his vehicle near Troy, according to Madison County officials.

John F. Isenberg, 47, was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m. Saturday near the scene of the accident at the intersection of Troy-O'Fallon Road and Mill Creek Road. A passenger in Isenberg's vehicle, 45-year-old Renee N. Donato, was injured in the crash and remained hospitalized Saturday night.

Madison N. Bucker, 16, of St. Jacob, was driving a Saab passenger vehicle east on Mill Creek Road when she struck the driver's side of Isenberg's Ford Explorer, officials said. Isenberg was traveling north on Troy-O'Fallon Road.

The collision caused both vehicles to overturn and Isenberg to be thrown from the vehicle. He appeared to have died from blunt chest trauma, according to a news release from Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn.

Bucker was hospitalized following the crash. The coroner's office did not know the conditions of Bucker or Donato on Saturday night.

Emergency crews were notified of the crash at 8:30 a.m., according to Nonn.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating the cause of the crash.

Funeral arrangements for Isenberg are under the direction of Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home in Troy.
