A Fairview Heights woman has been charged by the St. Clair County state's attorney with attempting to rob the Regions Bank in Belleville.

Deanna M. Greer, 20, of the 6800 block of Brandywine Court, has been charged with attempted armed robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.

Greer's bond was set at $200,000 and she remained in police custody Monday afternoon.

Greer walked into the Regions Bank on Carlyle Avenue just before 10 a.m. Saturday and gave a teller a note demanding money, according to police. She fled from the bank before she got any money from the teller.

According to police, she never displayed a weapon during the attempted robbery.

Belleville Police, including a K-9 unit, tracked the woman a short time later with the help of a witness who followed the woman from the bank.

She was taken into custody without incident, and additional evidence related to the crime was found inside an apartment near the bank branch.
