ST. CLAIR COUNTY FELONIES

FRIDAY, JULY 19

Nicholas L. Vogt, 25, of 109 N. Clinton St., New Athens, arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery of a peace officer, two counts of domestic battery and physical contact, and resisting a police officer on or about July 17 by Smithton police. Vogt allegedly made physical contact with Louis Wilson Jr., in that said defendant grabbed Louis Wilson Jr. by the leg and slammed him to the ground knowing Louis Wilson Jr. to be a peace officer engaged in the performance of his authorized duties; knowingly made physical contact with Marvin Vogt, a family/household member, in that said defendant punched Marvin Vogt in the face and kicked Marvin Vogt; knowingly resisted the performance of Scott Mohrmann of an authorized act within his official capacity, being the arrest of Nicholas Vogt, knowing Scott Mohrmann to be a peace officer engaged in the execution of his official duties, in that said defendant continued to be combative with the officer while the officer was placing the defendant in the patrol car.

Kevin Powell, 17, of 1203 Warren, Washington Park, arrested on suspicion of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to report an accident involving death, obstructing justice, no driver's license, two counts of failure to reduce speed and operating an uninsured motor vehicle on or about July 11 by St. Clair County sheriff. Powell allegedly, while acting in a reckless manner, performed acts likely to cause death or great bodily harm to some individual in that he operated a motor vehicle in a direction along and upon Lorraine Drive, in Cahokia, and was operating the vehicle without a license, at an excessive speed, without insurance, while accelerating and decelerating, and struck a male minor, thereby causing massive head trauma, multiple fractures, and internal injuries thereby causing the death of the male minor with a date of birth of Aug. 20, 2003; knowingly left the scene of an accident involved the vehicle he was driving, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am, after that vehicle was involved in an accident at 2381 Lorraine Drive in Cahokia, in which a male minor was killed as a result of that accident, and thereafter failed to report the accident to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department or any police department or Sheriff's Office near the place where such accident occurred within one-half hour after the accident; Devan Harris and Alysa N. Sherwood committed the offense of obstructing justice with the intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution of Kevin Powell, the defendants knowingly concealed physical evidence, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am; knowingly operated a motor vehicle, a 2001 silver Pontiac grand Am, on a roadway without being issued a driver's license; knowingly failed to reduce the speed of a motor vehicle, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, operated by the defendant to avoid colliding with a person; knowingly operated a motor vehicle, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am, at a speed greater than the statutory maximum speed limit; knowingly operated a motor vehicle, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am without insurance.

Devan Harris, 17, of 4 Circle Creek, Cahokia, arrested on suspicion of two counts of obstructing justice on or about July 11 by St. Clair County sheriff. Harris allegedly, with the intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution of Kevin Powell, the defendant knowingly concealed physical evidence, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am; with the intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution of Kevin Powell, knowingly induced a witness having knowledge material to the subject that issued a conceal himself.

Alysa N. Sherwood, 25, of 4621 Hallows, Washington Park, arrested on suspicion of two counts of obstruction justice, permit unauthorized person to drive, and rent motor vehicle to unauthorized person on or about July 11 by St. Clair County sheriff. Sherwood allegedly with the intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution of Kevin Powell, the defendant knowingly concealed physical evidence, a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am; with the intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution of Kevin Powell, the defendant knowingly furnished false information; knowingly permitted a motor vehicle being a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am owned by Alysa Sherwood, to be driven upon any highway by Kevin Powell, a person unauthorized to operate a motor vehicle; knowingly rented a motor vehicle being a 2001 silver Pontiac Grand Am owned by Alysa Sherwood, to Kevin Powell, a person not licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

James L. Thomas, 32, of 902 St. Matthews, Cahokia, arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine conspire unlawful possession of a controlled substance on or about July 18 by St. Clair County sheriff. Thomas allegedly had in his possession less than 15 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, a controlled substance.

James C. Green, 46, of 1036 Greenwood Drive, Madison, arrested on suspicion of retail theft on or about July 18 by Fairview Heights police. Green allegedly took merchandise from Macy's, 200 St. Clair Square, Fairview Heights, being two comforter sets, total retail value in excess of $300.

Cory A. Houghlan, 22, of 802 Union Ave., Belleville, arrested on suspicion of robbery and aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery in a public place on or about May 7 by Belleville police. Houghlan allegedly took property, being U.S. currency, from the person of Tracey Schneider, by the use of force; in committing battery, and while said defendant was at the 300 block of East Main Street in Belleville, a public place, knowingly caused bodily harm to Tracey Schneider in that he struck him in the face.
