Cooler weather is here to stay for a while

Unseasonably cool weather has settled over the metro-east and is expected to remain through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the high temperature will reach only 80 degrees Wednesday under sunny skies.

Sunny weather and 81 degree temperatures are expected Thursday. The temperature will reach a high of 83 Friday, 80 Saturday and 81 Sunday.

The average high temperature for this time of year in the St. Louis metropolitan area is 90 degrees, 10 degrees higher than the expected high this afternoon.

Last year at this time the mercury was more than 20 degrees higher. On the night of July 24, 2012 the record for the highest low temperature on record was reached at 86 degrees. The next day the all-time high temperature for July 25 was set at 108 degrees.
