Mississippi River Commission to meet public at Alton

News-DemocratJuly 24, 2013

The Mississippi River Commission will host a public hearing Aug. 16 aboard a river vessel bearing the river's name as the boat is docked on the Alton riverfront.

As part of its annual low-water inspection trip, the commission holds public hearings to get insight into local, state and regional concerns and allow the public a greater voice in shaping federal policy in the Mississippi River Watershed.

Local individuals and organizations are invited to present their views and concerns on matters affecting the water resources infrastructure needs in the Mississippi Valley, including flood control and the Mississippi River and Tributaries project, environmental issues, recreation and navigation.

Members of the public can register for the hearing online at http://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/home/mrc2013.aspx.

The meeting, which begins at 9 a.m., will be the only one held in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
