Cardinals, Lynn beat Philadelphia to complete sweep

— Lance Lynn fired seven strong innings and the St. Louis Cardinals scored three third-inning runs to defeat Philadelphia 3-1 on Thursday at Busch Stadium, completing their first three-game sweep over the Phillies in St. Louis since Aug. 17-19, 2001.

How it went

Matt Carpenter and Matt Adams stroked RBI singles and Jon Jay had a run-scoring triple in the third against Kyle Kendrick (9-7). The Cardinals sent eight men to the plate in the inning. Philadelphia plated a run against Lynn (12-5) in the fourth on an RBI single by Erik Kratz, but Lynn didn't buckle. He lasted seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, with four walks and six strikeouts.

By the numbers

The Cardinals turned three double plays in support of Lynn, who threw 118 pitches, 80 for strikes. ... Edward Mujica dusted off the Phillies in the ninth for his 30th save. .... Lynn had two sacrifice bunts, giving him a team-high 10.
