Raise the bar on St. Clair County pensions

July 27, 2013

St. Clair County is allowing politically connected attorneys who work part-time for the county to join the IMRF pension, even though some of them do not meet the 600-hour annual work requirement.

After removing the attorneys from the pension system who do not meet the 600-hour pension requirement, the county then needs to adopt the IMRF approved 1,000-hour pension standard. Once the county passes the 1,000-hour standard and places it on file with IMRF, all future county employees will need to meet that standard.

The county should pass this resolution immediately to eliminated pension participation by all part-time employees.
