Hudson's Bay Co. is purchasing luxury retailer Saks for approximately $2.4 billion. The buyer is the parent company of Lord & Taylor and also runs some Canadian department stores. The company will pay $16 per share for Saks, a 5 percent premium over the company's Friday closing price of $15.31. The companies put the deal's total value at about $2.9 billion including debt. ...

Oil prices were trading above $105 a barrel early Monday, after having fallen on Japan's Nikkei stock index. West Texas Intermediate, the benchmark for U.S. crude, was up 57 cents to $105.27 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 79 cents to close at $104.70 on Friday in New York.
