EAST ST. LOUIS — Police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a 43-year-old East St. Louis man a few blocks from the victim's home.
The victim was identified as Tyrone Jenkins of 728 N. 70th St.
Police believe an altercation occurred between Jenkins and the gunman leading to his death in the 600 block of 73rd Street on Saturday night.
Police Chief Michael Floore said officers are searching for a person of interest in the shooting reported at 6:20 p.m.
"We responded to a report of gunshots, man down. We canvassed the area when we arrived, but the shooter had fled the area," Floore said.
"We spoke with several witnesses and we have identified someone we would like to talk to, but we have not located him yet," Floore said.
Illinois State Police is investigating the murder along with the East St. Louis Police Department.
The St. Clair County Coroner's office responded to 620 N. 73rd St., where the victim was pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m.
Floore said Jenkins was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.
