Madison County woman charged after child finds drugs

News-DemocratJuly 31, 2013

A Granite City woman has been charged with two felony counts of illegal drug possession and a misdemeanor count of child endangerment.

According to the Madison County court records, Pamela P. Bays, 46 of 3120 W. Chain of Rocks Road, allowed a child access to Alprazolam and Tramadol tablets by leaving them out in the open.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department was called to Bays' residence after an argument between the woman and her daughter over finding the child with the drugs. It was then discovered that Bays illegally possessed the pills.

She was taken to the Madison County Jail and held on $20,000 bond.

Alprazolam is an anti-anxiety medication that is sold under the trade name Xanax. Tramadol is a pain killer similar to codeine that also is sometimes used to treat anxiety and depression.
