Street Art Festival turns sidewalks into masterpieces in Highland

News-DemocratJuly 31, 2013

Chalk one up for the 11th annual Street Art Festival and Art Expo from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday on Highland's downtown square.

More than 50 talented artists work their magic turning streets and sidewalks into masterpieces -- with chalk. Art will be judged and prizes will be awarded in four categories -- professional, amateur, college and high school. Spectators are invited to watch the works in progress.

The Art Expo will feature the work of area artists in photography, painting, jewelry, clay and other mediums on display and available for purchase. Representatives from the Highland League of Writers will display and sign their books.

Musicians will perform at street corners throughout the day. The lineup includes Chris Belden, Brad Kirchoff and Harold Schellenger, Lon-L and Two Blue, and Knoisemaker & the Silent Partners.

Young artists can create their own artwork at the Kreative Kids Korner. Special projects, activities and games are planned.

Children can also take on the inflatable Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course.
