A Centralia couple has been charged in connection with the abuse of their infant child.
According to police reports, a relative called the police department to complain that the couple's 6-week-old baby girl had been injured and she feared the girl was being abused.
An officer on a welfare check located the couple and saw that the child appeared to be seriously injured and called for an ambulance. The baby's condition was not available Friday morning.
The father, 21-year-old Blake Cook, was charged with aggravated battery of a minor. He told police the child was injured when he threw a jar of peanut butter at the wall but hit the baby. The mother, Margaret Overstreet, 20, initially said she didn't witness the abuse. But later police said she admitted she saw Cook strike the baby in the head when she wouldn't stop crying. She was charged with child endangerment.
