Clueless on MetroLink merits

August 2, 2013

While having no direct link to MetroLink, I would seriously like to talk to whomever wrote the poorly researched and ignorantly negative anti-MetroLink editorial in July 31 paper. As a patron with a family member who has used it every working day for the past 10 years, our hands-on experience is totally contrary to the unfounded allegations in the editorial. Seventeen million others agree with me.

MetroLink takes hundreds of cars, which would otherwise use gas and pollute the air, off the road each day. It is the way of the future no matter what fuel we end up with. It operates on a tight schedule and for us, leaves Swansea at 7:28 a.m. and returns us at 5:19 p.m., faster, more comfortably and more relaxing than on our poorly maintained highways anytime. It saves car maintenance and gives us great service with no problems. The drivers are very stern with anyone who causes trouble and they are ejected at the next stop. Security personnel ride along frequently. The rail cars themselves are the envy of the nation because they are clean, air conditioned and free of exterior or interior graffiti of any kind.

The airport route is not slower than driving, but if it were, what do you do when you get there with your car? Find a parking lot, then wait for a tram-bus and lug your stuff all yourself. The MetroLink goes directly to the airport and has luggage carts. Nope, whomever wrote the editorial is clueless. If we are to be afraid of drunks, muggings, assaults and robberies, we had better stay away from the mall also.
