Vandal throws rocks at trucks on I-55 in Madison County

News-DemocratAugust 2, 2013

Police are looking for a suspect who hid in the tall grass of a median on Interstate 55 and threw rocks and bricks at passing semi-trailer trucks.

The incident happened about 4:20 a.m. Friday on Interstate 55 at mile marker 37.7, near the border of Madison County, according to Illinois State Trooper Calvin Dye Jr.

Law enforcement officials from several counties are working to find the suspect, he said.

The objects thrown by the suspect broke the windshields of several trucks and struck one UPS truck. There were nine reports of damaged vehicles.

Dye said the suspect may have been lying in the brushes in the median. Because it was dark, police do not have a description available of the suspect.
