ST. LOUIS — Andre Ethier had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and pitcher Zack Greinke had an RBI single in the seventh Monday to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers past the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 before 42,464 at Busch Stadium.
How it went
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead against Greinke (9-3) in the first. Matt Carpenter doubled and went to third on an error by right fielder Yasiel Puig. Carlos Beltran grounded to shortstop Nick Punto, whose throw home sailed as Carpenter scored. Ethier's RBI hit to right and A.J. Ellis' fielder's choice put the Dodgers ahead 2-1 in the fourth against Adam Wainwright (13-7). Punto had a two-out double and Greinke followed with an RBI single in the seventh against Wainwright to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Pinch-hitter Adron Chambers walked against Greinke to start the seventh, and Carpenter singled Chambers to second. Carlos Beltran's first sacrifice bunt of the season put runners at second and third. Greinke was relieved by Ronald Belisario, who retired Craig on a grounder to first as Chambers scored.
