News-DemocratAugust 6, 2013

Five teenagers were hospitalized Monday night following a two-car accident on Brighton-Bunker Hill Road in Macoupin County.

According to Sheriff Don Albrecht, the two vehicles collided head-on. The victims had to be cut from the cars. At least two of the teens were airlifted to area hospitals while the other three were taken by ambulance.

Albrecht said a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Austin E. Rose, 20 of Bunker Hill went off the shoulder and then swerved back onto the roadway. The Taurus struck a 199 Pontiac Gran Prix driven by Allison Whitehead, 18 of Staunton.

Information about the conditions of the victims was not available.
