Four seriously injured in rollover crash

Four people were seriously injured in a rollover crash Saturday night near Gillespie.

Macoupin County Sheriff's Department deputies and Gillespie police officers responded to the crash around 11:30 p.m. on Three Mile Road. When they arrived, they found a 2003 Mitsubishi convertible overturned in a cornfield. The vehicle left the road and rolled several times while traveling southwest.

All four occupants were seriously injured. Two were taken by air to St. Louis hospitals and the other two taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Those injured in the crash are: William G. Gill, 40, of Benld, Michael C. Helvey, 29, of Gillespie, Matthew F. Rauzi, 25, of Gillespie and Ryan J. Melchert, 24, of Gillespie.

Additional information about the condition of the four victims was unavailable.

The crash remains under investigation by the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police.
