CARLYLE LAKE, Carlyle: Largemouth bass are fair. They can be taken using cranks fished along the rocks and in the wood. Catfish are very good. They are no longer on the rocks but are still very active. Bank fishermen are using cheese baits, nightcrawlers — Henkel's Hook & Arrow
CARLYLE LAKE SPILLWAY (Kaskaskia River): White bass are excellent. They are being caught on the Vibric Rooster tails with a curly tail tied off on a loop about 1 to 1 1/2 feed above it. Night fishermen are using submersible lights and minnows and tying off on buoys. Quite a few nice hybrid bass have been caught recently. The catfish bite is very food, with shad, nightcrawlers and cheese bait doing well. Crappie are very good. Most are being caught on minnows. The sauger bite has slowed to fair. REND LAKE, Ina: The crappie bit is good on stake beds and brush piles on the main lake. Expect to catch a lot of small fish along with the good ones. Jigs and minnows seem to work equally well. If fishing from the bank, try fishing from the concrete wall at the Sailboat Harbor boat ramp or the docks at the Rend Lake Resort. The catfish bite is really good. Main lake drifting is the most popular method now. You can fish from the shore just about anywhere and catch catfish on the bottom. Choice baits are shad gut, leeches, shrimp and nightcrawlers. Bass are being caught in shallow bushes/laydowns in 2 to 4 feet of water pitching soft plastics and spinner baits. Black and blue jigs are a good choice. Fish are transitioning to the rocks and are being caught on crankbaits. Bluegill are being caught in shallow water and along the rocks. Worms work great. -- Clint Taylor, Crappie Xtreme Guide Service
SILVER LAKE, Highland: Lake is full and clarity is around 1 foot. Temps. remain in the upper 70s. Bass fishing is good with many fish being caught. Tuesday night's tournament had nine boats and 10 fish weighed in. Bass are being caught in weedlines and around rip rap. Try fishing spinnerbaits and crankbaits around these areas.
COFFEEN LAKE: Largemouth bass are spotty to fair. Channel catfish are fair using stink bait and worms. Crappie are spotty to fair with minnows and jigs in deep water. -- Indian Grove Campground
CRAB ORCHARD LAKE: Largemouth bass are fair using buzzbaits and artificial worms. Bluegill are good with waxworms, crickets and red wigglers along banks. Crappie are fair using jigs 8 to 10 feet deep. Channel Catfish are good to fair using leeches, cut bait and cheese bait. -- Cooksey's Bait Shop
