Five accused in robbery of 77-year-old man near Belleville

Three men and two women have been charged in connection with robbing a 77-year-old man in Belleville.

Darryl L. Jones, 18, of Fairview Heights; Kaitlyn T. Fultz, 18, of Swansea; Deontre L. Samuels, 20, of O'Fallon; Shay O. Bennett, 24, of East St. Louis; and Traseana D. Parks, 17, of Swansea were all charged with robbery, a class 1 felony.

All five suspects are being held in St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Lt. Scott Weymouth, the men spotted the victim as he was taking a walk at about 3:30 a.m. Monday near the intersection of West Boulevard and Carlyle Avenue just outside of Belleville city limits.

They shoved him and then stole his wallet. The victim, whose name was not released, received minor injuries. The suspects attempted to use the victim's credit cards at several locations, according to police.

Swansea, Fairview Heights and Shiloh police departments assisted with the investigation.
