Volunteers sought to help clean up derelict properties in Cahokia

News-DemocratAugust 16, 2013

A Cahokia real estate firm is looking for volunteers to help clean up abandoned properties in town.

Chuck Baer Realty Inc. has partnered with Cahokia's mayor and code enforcement officers to board up derelict homes and clean abandoned properties in the city.

The real estate agency contributes the paint and plywood and volunteers from the agency and the city help cover up and clean up the yards outside abandoned homes one Saturday each month. The project began in June as volunteers boarded up two homes. Volunteers returned to board up more abandoned homes in July and will return to board up three or four more houses beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 24.
