Guarding our most vulnerable

August 16, 2013

BND, Aug, 9, "Judge names guardian for some Murray residents." Circuit Judge William Becker was correct in my mind for putting some residents of the Warren B. Murray Development Center under the custody of a court-appointed guardian, rather than the state, which is closing the center.

How sad it is that our state government can go after care facilities like the Murray Development Center for a few million dollars in savings but can't figure out how to address pensions.

There should be no doubt about who and what has the most influence on our state government. Further, I do not understand why budget cuts should fall on institutions like the Murray Center and those institutions that are guaranteed funding by our state constitution are not tasked to help keep institutions like the Murray facility open. This situation is totally reverse of what it should be.
