A 21-year-old Belleville man is facing two counts of armed robbery in two separate holdups at the Circle K convenience store on West Main Street in Belleville.

London M. Brown, of the 1800 block of Jay Avenue, was charged Friday with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, a Class X felony, by the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office.

According to the criminal complaint, a man robbed the Circle K convenience store at 2709 W. Main St. on July 22 and at 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

The man confronted the store clerk and demanded cash early Thursday, police said. The clerk handed over the cash and the suspect left the store, heading down North 28th Street. One customer was in the store at the time and a second customer in the parking lot saw a man holding a rifle, according to the Belleville Police.

Police apprehended the suspect after a short foot chase. He was found shortly after 2 a.m. hiding behind a bush near a home on Foster Drive and taken into custody without incident. Belleville police found the rifle in a yard.

Officers from the Belleville Police Department, St. Clair County Sheriff's Department and Swansea Police Department were involved in the search.

No one was injured in the robbery.

If convicted, Brown could face six to 30 years in prison for each count of armed robbery.
