Gateway shortstop Michael Wing went 4-for-5 with three doubles and the Grizzlies cruised to an 8-1 victory against the Evansville Otters in the series finale at Bosse Field on Sunday night in Evansville, Ind.
Wing doubled in the first, third and eighth innings while also driving in two runs and scoring three runs.
Gateway (46-35), which had dropped the first two games of the series, recorded 13 hits as a team and stayed one game ahead of Southern Illinois for the final wild card position.
Jake Stephens (4-2) was the winning pitcher. Stephens allowed only one run on six hits in six innings.
After scoring only two runs in each of the first two games in the series, the Grizzlies picked up a run in the second inning and two runs in the third.
Jon Myers blasted his league-leading 19th home run of the season in the second inning to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.
Evansville (39-41) scored a run in the second inning on a Steve Marino RBI single before the Grizzlies jumped back in front in the third inning.
Jonathan Johnson reached on an error and came in to score on a Michael Wing run-scoring double. Wing then scored on a Chris McClendon RBI single to make it 3-1 Gateway.
Gateway added to their lead in the fifth inning on a Jose Flores RBI single and scored four runs on five hits in the eighth inning, which included a Jet Butler solo home run.
After an off day Monday, the Grizzlies continue their road trip Tuesday night in Washington. Right-hander Tucker Jensen (6-6) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
