Belleville to kick off city's comprehensive plan revision

The Belleville City Council and Planning Commission will have a special joint meeting Wednesday to discuss updating the city's comprehensive plan.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 101 S. Illinois St.

The council approved $193,542 in June to hire Kendig Keast Collaborative, of Sugarland, Texas, to form a 20-year "Envision Belleville 2035" plan that will act as a road map for the city's growth.

The consultants will walk city officials through an interactive "Issues and Needs" workshop on Wednesday designed to give an overview of coming months and get participants to start thinking about the big picture.

The discussion will likely be about reviewing what Belleville has or has not accomplished in the past 10 years and how the city has changed since the 2000 comprehensive plan; opportunities in the future for growth, mobility, housing, economic development and land use; and issues the city has to prioritize.
