Coaches poll finds Bearcats tabbed to finish sixth in GLVC

— The McKendree University women's volleyball team has been picked to finish sixth in the East Division of the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference standings, according to the league's annual pre-season poll that was released on Tuesday.

The Bearcats received 58 points in the rating that was conducted among the GLVC's 16 head volleyball coaches. In its first season of conference play in 2012, McKendree posted a .500 record in the GLVC at 9-9. The Bearcats were 15-16 in their first year under the leadership of head coach Lisa Orlet. McKendree will have 11 returning letterwinners and all six of its starters back from last year's squad.

In the 2013 GLVC volleyball pre-season poll, the University of Indianapolis has earned the coaches' vote to repeat as the East Division champions, while conference newcomer Truman State University was selected to win the West Division race. Coaches were asked to rank each GLVC member in descending order within each division, and were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

McKendree will open its 2013 season Sept. 6-7 at the University of West Florida Hemingway's Invitational in Pensacola, Fla.

The Bearcats will then be in Warrensburg, Mo., the following weekend for the University of Central Missouri Peggy Martin Challenge before opening the home portion of its schedule on Sept. 21 in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
