Police said a four-hour standoff Tuesday night in East Carondelet was started when a woman called and said her boyfriend was slashing his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt.

The situation started just after 10 p.m. near the intersection of 8th and Wisconsin streets, according to St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Lt. Scott Weymouth. It drew officers from several departments who surrounded the home in which the suspect had barricaded himself.

"The subject would not respond to the officers on scene," Weymouth said. "The suspect was identified as Christopher Chartrand and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Special Response Team made entry to the residence and took him into custody without incident. Chartrand is currently in the St. Clair County Jail."

Chartrand was taken away from the scene in handcuffs and didn't have any obvious sign of serious injuries.
