Alton man killed in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night.

Paul M. Garrett, 33, of 26 East Elm St., was driving south on Central Avenue in Alton at 10:56 p.m. when his Harley Davidson motorcycle left the roadway and struck a metal fence.

Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was determined to be head trauma, according to the Madison County Coroner's office. He was not wearing a helmet.

The crash is under investigation by the Alton Police Department. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
