ST. LOUIS — Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran homered and Matt Holliday had a two-run double Saturday night to lift Shelby Miller and the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-2 victory over Atlanta.
How it went
Freddie Freeman hit his 16th homer in the top of the first inning, against Miller (12-8), to put the Braves ahead 1-0. Carpenter hit his 10th homer in the bottom of the first, against Julio Teheran (10-7), to tie it at 1. Beltran hit his 23rd homer in the third, also against Teheran, to make it 2-1. Shane Robinson singled as a pinch-hitter to start the seventh and went to third on Carpenter's single. David Carpenter relieved Teheran and got Beltran on a foulout to third, but Holliday followed with his double to right-center that made it 4-1. After Allen Craig singled, Molina singled to right-center to score Holliday to give the Cardinals their four-run lead. Beltran drove in the Cardinals' final run with an eighth-inning single.
