Police: Intoxicated pedestrian struck by car in Collinsville

News-DemocratAugust 26, 2013

An intoxicated pedestrian was injured by a car Sunday night not far from the spot where another pedestrian was struck and killed earlier this year.

Collinsville police received several calls Sunday night about a pedestrian walking in the roadway on Belt Line Road before Eric Roby, 24, of Cahokia, was struck by a vehicle.

Lt. Brett Boerm said it was apparent to police that Roby was intoxicated and walking in the roadway when he was struck by the car.

Roby was taken to a local hospital and then over to a St. Louis area hospital. He is expected to survive and did not have any broken bones, Boerm said.

The driver, who was not identified by police, will not face charges, Boerm said. Roby was cited for improper walking on a roadway and as a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.

In February, 22-year-old Anthony Connors was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident while walking along that same stretch of road near the overpass over Belt Line Road. Connors was walking home from work when he was struck and knocked into a ditch, where he was found three days later.
