A Godfrey man has been charged with possession of drugs and unlawful use of a weapon after a Tuesday night traffic stop.
James A. Bratton, 25, of 1234 Preis Lane, was pulled over at 9:35 p.m. in the 2700 block of Godfrey Road after failing to use his turn signal, according to Madison County Sheriff's Department Capt. T. Mike Dixon. A walk around search of Bratton's car was done with a drug-sniffing dog and the animal indicated that it detected narcotics.
Dixon said two bags of marijuana were found in the car while another bag and a loaded semiautomatic pistol were found in Bratton's pants pocket.
Bratton was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis of between 30-500 grams with intent to distribute and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was being held in the Madison County Jail on $30,000 bail.
