Coverage didn't match cartoon

August 28, 2013

Good to see that someone over at the BND is on top of the cold-blooded murder that occurred recently in Duncan, Okla. Glenn McCoy's cartoon Aug. 23 was right on target, although those who get their news strictly from the BND probably wouldn't even recognize it.

The AP article that the BND printed on page A6 of an earlier edition chose to eulogize the victim more than report the details of the murder. Key facts were excluded in the AP's coverage.

The two charged with first-degree murder were black teenagers while their accomplice was a white teenand the alleged driver. The police reported that one of the trio said they decided to kill someone "for the fun of it."

They simply sought a target, which happened to be an Australian student-athlete at an Oklahoma university out jogging. They followed him in their vehicle, shot him in the back and left him to die in a ditch.
