Belleville police say they are looking for a man blamed for robbing a couple at gunpoint in the 100 block of Royal Heights Center Drive.

According to police reports, at 12:08 a.m. Wednesday a suspect -- described as a black male in his mid 30s, 5-8 with a heavy build and a dark complexion -- pulled a handgun on a man and a woman as they were walking home.

He forced the victims to lay face down on the ground and took their valuables before fleeing toward the Pheasantwood Apartment Complex.

The suspect, who was holding a piece of cloth or a mask over his face, was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Belleville police asked for assistance from the Fairview Heights Police Department's canine unit. But the dog was unable to track down the robber.
