The Mexican eatery will be in the newly built Central Park Center on Central Park Drive.

Subway also plans to open a restaurant there. Stay tuned.

A new Mexican restaurant is opening this week in downtown Belleville.

The proprietors of Baja Cali at 100 N. High St. say they plan to open for business by Wednesday.

This is the second Mexican eatery to move into the first-floor space at the corner of North High Street and East A Street in as many years. Tienes Hombre? was an on-again, off-again restaurant that had operated there before closing for good earlier this year. For decades prior to that, the space housed The Jug restaurant and tavern.

Also in Glen Carbon, Walmart has opened its 59,000-square-foot addition with a larger selection of merchandise and groceries. The expansion at 400 Junction Drive in Cottonwood Plaza opened last week and includes fresh produce, meat, bakery, deli, as well as expanded electronics and pet supply departments. The number there is 618-692-0550.

Halloween retailer Spirit Halloween has opened for the season at 6104 N. Illinois St. The number there is 618-218-9978.

A home decor store in Lebanon will soon close. Simple Country Pleasures at 217 W. St. Louis St. will close its doors by the end of next month. In the meantime, you can call them at 618-537-8404.

The Belleville Area Humane Society is now closed on Sundays. You can find them every other day of the week at 1301 S. 11th St. Call 618-235-3712 or go online to www.bahspets.com for more information.

And finally, a Granite City music store is celebrating 50 years in business. Founder and owner John Fornaszewski opened Fornaszewski Music Store at 3007 and 3009 Nameoki Road in 1963. Call the store at 618-877-3475.
