Hawthorne is cut by Steelers

Former East St. Louis and Illinois player Terry Hawthorne was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday during roster cutdowns.

Hawthorne, a cornerback, was taken in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Steelers.

He missed most of the rookie offseason program rehabilitating a knee injury that also sidelined him into training camp.

Hawthorne got back on the field before the end of the preseason, finishing with two tackles.
