MARION — The Gateway Grizzlies scored a season-high in runs with Jon Myers driving in a team-record nine in a 19-14 slugfest win against the Southern Illinois Miners on Thursday night in the season finale at Rent One Park.
Myers went for 4-for-5 with two home runs and nine runs batted, which was a new team-record. Landon Hernandez, who previously had the record, drove in eight runs Aug. 3 this season. Myers also tied the league-record, becoming the fourth player in league history and the first since 2008 to drive in nine in a game.
Myers finished the season as the league's home run leader (25).
Six different players recorded at least two hits and six different players recorded at least two runs in the game for the Grizzlies (53-43).
Chris McClendon went 3-for-5 with four runs, while also collecting his 100th hit of the season.
Jonathan Johnson recorded two hits and scored four runs. Johnson broke the team's single-season games played record with his 96th game of the year.
Landon Hernandez had two hits, including his 16th home run of the season, while scoring two and driving in two.
Jose Flores collected two doubles and two RBI. Max Ayarza also had two hits in the game.
Gateway led 15-0 after four innings before the Miners roared back with 12 unanswered runs (5 in the fifth and 7 in the sixth) to cut the lead to three.
Gateway scored 11 runs on eight hits in the fourth inning.
Gateway scored four runs in the top of the eighth before the Miners answered with two in the bottom of the eighth to finish off the scoring.
Chris Enourato (2-2) picked up the win in relief for the Grizzlies.
