Two metro-east firefighters injured while battling blaze

News-DemocratSeptember 7, 2013

Two firefighters were injured battling a house fire Saturday night in the 5900 block of Bond Avenue near Alorton.

Alorton Fire Chief Carlos Darough said the firefighters were taken to hospitals in St. Louis and he did not have their medical condition.

He did not release how the firefighters were injured. They are from the Camp Jackson and Prairie du Pont fire departments.

It was reported at 6:30 p.m. that a woman was trapped in the burning house.

"We made entry and searched for the female who lived there but no one was inside," Darough said.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire.

Darough said the home is located in the Camp Jackson Fire Department's district. Alorton, Church Road, Cahokia and Prairie du Pont firefighters assisted Camp Jackson.
