Led by Most Valuable Player Zoe Zeiter and all-tourney selection DaLynn Martin, Belleville West won all five of its matches Saturday and knocked off host Quincy in the championship round of the Quincy Early Bird Volleyball Invitational.
West (6-0) knocked off Quincy 26-24, 25-22 in the championship match for its fifth straight win on the day. Zeiter had a match-high 12 kills in the title match while Sarah Owens had six kills and Kayla Juenger had five.
Quincy got eight kills from Monica Bumbry.
The Maroons used better balance and an edge in offensive firepower to upend Quincy.
"We're so balanced," West coach Austin Betz said. "Zoe is our best hitter but we can go to any one of our hitters, and they can put the ball away. It's great, because our setters do a great job of spreading it out. It makes it tough on the other team."
The Maroons lost only one game Saturday, taken to three games by Pekin before beating the Dragons 25-18, 17-25, 15-10. West also rolled through Galesburg (25-19, 25-16), Springfield Lanphier (25-20, 25-11) and (East Moline) United Township (25-16, 25-16) before beating Quincy for the title.
