St. Louis man charged in New Athens bank robbery

A 50-year-old St. Louis man accused of wearing a dress and a bright pink wig while robbing a New Athens bank has been charged in federal court.

Arnell L. Edwards was charged with one count of bank robbery and was not issued a bond.

He was arrested Friday afternoon after he held off police for five hours at a New Athens apartment complex after he allegedly robbed the nearby U.S. Bank.

On Monday, he was transferred from the St. Clair County Jail to federal custody.
