— Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-week-old East St. Louis girl on Tuesday.

The infant's parents were staying at America's Best Inn at 2423 Old Country Inn Drive when their child was unresponsive.

They ran across the street to the Cracker Barrel restaurant to seek help.

Sgt. Frank Moore, the interim police chief for Caseyville, said his department received a call for help at 8:24 a.m. about a non-responsive baby.

Moore said police officers and bystanders attempted CPR but the efforts were not successful.

Moore said the state Department of Children and Family Services and the St. Clair County Coroner's Office are investigating what led to the girl's death.

The names of the girl and her parents were not released.
