'PhotoBilly 50' set for Friday at Belle-Clair

A $10,000 top prize and $1,200 to start will highlight one of the richest purses in the history of Belle-Clair Speedway on Friday for the second annual "PhotoBilly 50."

Sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the race is being run in honor of late track photographer Charles Haffer Jr.

A well-known figure in St. Louis racing circles, "Photobilly" Haffer died Aug. 7, 2012 at age 44 in a highway accident in Iowa while traveling to a race.

Brandon Sheppard set a track record in qualifying last season and won the inaugural event, which featured more than 50 of the best Super Late Model Drivers in the country.

Reserved tickets are available at www.woolms.com for $35. General admission is $30, with children 12-and-under admitted free.

Pit passes are $35 for DIRTcar members and $40 for non-members. Qualifying begins at 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30.

NHRA Drag Racing at Gateway

The second annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals drag racing event is headed for Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison on Sept. 27-29.

This will be the third of six races in the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship, the NHRA playoffs. Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycles will all be competing.

Qualifying sessions are Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 with final eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

The NHRA Fan Fest presented by Mid-America Chevy Dealers will be held Sept. 26 at Washington Square in St. Louis.

Tri-City Speedway

Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach is hosting its "Takin It To the Streets: night Friday featuring $3,000 to win for UMP Street Stocks.

UMP National Points will be awarded for all classes. Tickets are $15 for adults and children 12-under are admitted free.

Highland Speedway

Highland Speedway is holding its championship night featuring a regular racing program and Micros on Saturday.

Michael Kloos was the UMP Late Model feature winner last Saturday, while Brian Bielong won the UMP Steve Schmitt Modifieds feature.

Federated Auto Parts Raceway

The Pevely Nationals, featuring the World of Outlaws UMP DIRTCar Late Model Series running for $10,000 to win, are Saturday night at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.

UMP DIRTCar Modifieds running for $1,000 to win and UMP DIRTCar/AARA Sportsman cars running for $400 to win. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m., Late Model time trials at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

At its final regular season event last Friday, Rickey Frankel picked up his first UMP Late Model feature win of 2013. Scott Weber won the track title for UMP Late Models.

Michael Long was the first-time feature winner in UMP Modifieds, with Ray Walsh taking the track season title.
