It's been a dozen years since I first met Steven Raichlen. We ended up in Memphis together behind the scenes at the Annual World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. I was working on a story about the team representing Super Smokers from St. Louis while Steven was along as a celebrity team member, plus doing some cooking demos on stage at the event.
He was already on his way up in the world of barbecue experts, with a dozen cookbooks under his belt, including best sellers "The Barbecue! Bible" and "Barbecue! Bible Sauces, Rubs and Marinades." Since then I've lot track of his many other "cue" cookbooks. Plus, he's had his own food show and makes appearances all over the map.
One of his most innovative events has been to host a three-day summer seminar in Colorado where guests could learn to cook. He calls it Barbecue University.
On Sept. 22, Steven is bringing Barbecue U. to you. Live.
At 3 p.m., he will hold a free live video class where he will demonstrate how to make four tailgating recipes:
Mile-Long Smoked Bratwurst Sandwich
The Raichlen Cheese Steak
The demo will be followed by a live question-and-answer session.
Attendees will receive a free copy of Steven's e-cookbook, "Raichlen's Tailgating!" and will be able to download the class and watch it again later.
