Belleville West moves up in state football rankings; Highland cracks top 10

Unbeaten Belleville West (3-0) jumped two placed to No. 8 in the Associated Press weekly Class 7A state football rankings while Highland (3-0) cracked the 5A Top 10 at No. 10.

Edwardsville (3-0) moved from fifth to fourth in Class 7A after a 29-28 win over East St. Louis.

Belleville East (2-1), which plays at Belleville West at 1 p.m. Saturday, also got votes in the Class 7A poll while O'Fallon (2-1) hung in at No. 6 in Class 8A.

O'Fallon plays a 2 p.m. game Saturday at East St. Louis (1-2), which dropped form third to seventh in Class 5A following the loss to Edwardsville.

Highland plays host to Mississippi Conference rival Jerseyville (2-1) on Friday in what could determine the conference champion.

In 4A, Columbia (3-0) moved up from sixth to fifth after beating Dupo while Althoff (1-2) dropped out of the poll entirely following a loss to Mascoutah.

Mater Dei (3-0) is 12th in 4A and threatening to break into the Top 10.

Carlyle (3-0) is 14th in Class 2A.
