Police called to investigate beating, find meth lab

News-DemocratSeptember 18, 2013

Police responding to a call of a fight in the Dupo area arrived at a home to discover an operating meth lab.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Capt. Scott Weymouth said deputies and paramedics from the Prairie Du Pont Fire Department were called to a mobile home park at 488 McBride Avenue about a disturbance and found the occupants of the residents had been involved in physical disagreement about the drug-making operation.

Rescue workers were unable to immediately help the injured man, whose condition was unknown, because of the hazardous chemicals used to make methamphetamine. Instead the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit was called in to secure the scene and to lead the investigation.

"Two subjects were arrested and are in our custody," Weymouth said. "The Illinois State Police Meth Team also responded to assist with the removal of the lab."

Weymouth said the sheriff's department is wrapping up its investigation and plans to apply for charges Thursday.
