A call reporting shots fired near Belleville on Sunday ended with St. Clair County sheriff's deputies struggling with a suspect.

Police received the call about shots fired from 1101 Five Forks Road and, recognizing the address as one they had received several calls about in the past, knew David E. Fields, 17, lived there. The caller reported four males were hanging out in front of the home and fired several shots from a gun.

Deputies Robert Boehm and Jacob Hoffman arrived and when they attempted to ask Fields some questions, he resisted arrest and struggled with Hoffman on the front porch of the home.

During the struggle, Boehm spotted a weapon on Fields. Fields was taken to the ground and a loaded pistol magazine fell to the porch. Fields continued to struggle with the deputies while being handcuffed and kicked both several times, according to sheriff's Lt. Scott Weymouth.

Fields was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated battery.

His bail was set at $75,000 and he remains in custody at the St. Clair County Jail.
